Do you like shooting aliens in the face with extreme prejudice? Then boy are you in luck! Konami has revealed the full lineup of games for Contra Anniversary Collection. The title lives up to its name in the most literal possible sense, seeing how three separate versions of the original Contra are included:
- Contra (Arcade)
- Super Contra (Arcade)
- Super C (NES)
- Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES)
- Contra: Hard Corps (Sega Genesis)
- Contra (NES)
- Contra (Famicom)
- Operation C (Game Boy)
- Probotector (Sega Mega Drive)
- Super Probotector: Alien Rebels (SNES)
Incidentally, Probotector is just a PAL region version of Hard Corps, with robots replacing the previously human protagonists. Likewise, Super Probotector is a PAL version of Contra III. And Super C is of course a port of Super Contra.
So essentially, Konami is giving us lots of different flavors of the same small handful of games. That’s not surprising either, considering there aren’t nearly as many Contra titles as Castlevania titles, for instance. It would have been nice if they’d included one of the later experiences though, like Contra 4.
At any rate, a free future update for Contra Anniversary Collection will include Japanese versions of Contra arcade, Super Contra arcade, Super C, Contra III, Operation C, and Contra: Hard Corps. The collection will also feature a snazzy digital booklet that includes facts and details about series history.
Contra Anniversary Collection will release some time this summer for $19.99. And Castlevania Anniversary Collection already released earlier this month if that’s more your style.
