YouTube channel PC Gaming Videos has created a Crysis Remastered comparison video that highlights exactly where Crytek’s remaster needs to be polished. After store pages leaked earlier this week indicating that the game would launch on July 23, Crytek announced that it was delaying the game in order to give it more polish. This video puts scenes from the leaked gameplay trailer side by side with the original game, showing some improvements, but also some questionable issues regarding textures.
The Crysis series has always looked fantastic for its time. While Crysis Remastered does bring the original game up to par in some ways, with grass now casting realistic shadows and improved water reflections, it seems to stumble when it comes to wall and character textures.
For example, the Nanosuits that are worn by team members in the game have noticeably less detail in the remaster, and outside of some lighting improvements, environments seem to have taken a hit to texture detail overall. This is particularly obvious in the interior of the cargo plane at the Crysis Remastered comparison video’s start. Some effects and animations seem to be far less detailed in the video too.
Crytek obviously never intended for Crysis Remastered‘s release date and gameplay trailer to leak. However, this could be a blessing in disguise. Fans have voiced their concerns over the differences between the original game and the remaster, and Crytek has heard those concerns. Hopefully when the remaster does finally release, we’ll be able to praise it for how every aspect looks better than it did in 2007, especially on Nintendo Switch.
