Crytek has today released a Crysis Remastered Switch tech trailer. This new trailer shows off the meaningful updates made to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. The last video of the Switch version of the game showed some destructible trees. However, we weren’t sure at the time how deep that environmental destruction went. This trailer shows off that feature and others like gyro controls with footage captured at 720p with 30FPS directly from Switch.
The Crysis Remastered Switch tech trailer begins by showing off vegetation bending. This is a feature many developers don’t bother with, but I think it’s important in Crysis Remastered because of how detailed the world is. The trailer then shifts to destructible environments. Crytek has delivered with this version of the game if the trailer is anything to go by. Buildings, trees, and various objects can all be wrecked with guns and explosives.
The trailer also shows off the dynamic lighting, which is really impressive for a Switch game, as well as the light rays and sunbeams. The game features voxel-based global illumination (SVOGI), giving everything a realistic lighting effect.
Points of note
The game will launch with gyro aiming support. I myself don’t enjoy this as a feature, but I know that a lot of readers out there want more games with this enabled. This is a great move by Crytek and should serve it well as long as it has been implemented properly.
The second point of note comes at 1:23, when motion blue and depth of field are showcased. You can see a tree in the distance visibly darting around. What should be happening is more of that vegetation bending we saw earlier. This vegetation hasn’t been rendered enough to properly bend though. Instead what we’re shown is a low-poly version of the vegetation dancing around. I don’t think this should be a deal-breaking issue for anyone wanting to buy the game, but it is something to be wary of going in.
Crysis Remastered launches on Nintendo Switch on July 23.
