2022 Nintendo Switch reveal trailer Cultic 3D Realms Jasozz Games Jason Smith retro horror FPS first-person shooter

Publisher 3D Realms and developer Jasozz Games (solo developer Jason Smith) have announced retro horror first-person shooter CULTIC for a 2022 launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. CULTIC has a reveal trailer showcasing its grim, chunky FPS stylings, but it also has a Steam demo to try out right now. The game begins with you dying — awesome, congrats — but then you come back to shoot, run, jump, slide, and dodge your way through “the ranks of a mysterious and violent cult” whose minds are being further twisted by an “unseen entity.”

You will be using “mid-century” firearms and explosives in CULTIC to combat the many lunatics you come across. The key idea, as with many recent retro FPS titles, is to present a throwback experience but with modern physics and lighting in a “fully 3D game world.” If you’re a fan of the visual style on display here, then you’re probably all set to enjoy it next year.

3D Realms (recently acquired by Embracer Group) is the force behind many recent retro FPS games, such as Hexen 2-inspired Graven, Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, and last year’s Ion Fury. The publisher has a long, long history with shooters.
