Cuphead developers Studio MDHR want to make a Zelda game

Studio MDHR is riding high right now. Their debut game Cuphead is a smash hit on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and its DLC, The Delicious Last Course, is scheduled to release this year. However, the developer is always looking toward the future. And as Destructoid previews, the magazine Nintendo Force has interviewed the heads of Studio MDHR for its upcoming issue. Among other things, they discussed a strong desire to make a The Legend of Zelda game.

The interview is specifically with Maja, Chad, and Jared Moldenhauer. About Zelda, Jared Moldenhauer said the following:

…a sprawling Zelda title brought to life in a doting 2D hand-animated style…Think of all the expressiveness and life you could bring to the tribes, people, and enemies of a universe that rich! And much like Cuphead, we would get to test our design mettle coming up with screen-filling bosses of an entirely different nature.

He then reiterates that everything would be hand-painted with no recycling and that it would be a dream come true for him.

Yeah, visuals of the Cuphead caliber would make for quite the Zelda game. It would also be a nice way to keep the two-dimensional style of Zelda gameplay alive, though Grezzo is already helping on that front. Honestly, I think it’s far fetched that Studio MDHR will get their hands on Zelda, but then again, Cadence of Hyrule exists!

In any case, if you want to read the full interview, make sure to check out the next issue of Nintendo Force.
