A tweet by the official Dark Souls twitter account this morning announced a surprise delay for the Switch version of the highly anticipated remaster of Dark Souls. PC, PS4, and XB1 versions will maintain their original release date of next month, and the Switch version will now follow sometime this summer. To accommodate the new release date, the Solaire of Astora Amiibo will also be delayed.
Due to the nature of causality, we must announce that the Nintendo Switch version of #DarkSoulsRemastered will be pushed back to summer of 2018, and with it, the release of the Solaire of Astora amiibo.
PC/PS4/X1 versions will maintain their May 25th release date.

Aside from being announced a little more than a month outside of the planned release, the delay is especially surprising because the Switch version seemed to be coming along quite nicely. YouTuber Reakor Kacho captured off-screen footage of Switch gameplay in Blighttown, an area from the original that lives in infamy due to awful performance and framerate drops. The Switch gameplay appeared deliciously stable.
Hopefully, whatever issue caused this delay can be remedied soon so that Switch owners can die on the go, over…and over…and over.
