Airship Syndicate and THQ Nordic are finally telling fans what they want to know: Darksiders Genesis will release on Feb. 14, 2020 — Valentine’s Day — for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Weirdly, PC and Google Stadia players will actually be receiving the game much earlier on Dec. 5. An explanation for the gap has not been provided, but we can all agree that a functioning game is better than a rushed game, so complaints are likely to be minimal.
A new action-packed and humorous cinematic trailer for Darksiders Genesis has been released to commemorate the game receiving its release date at last. Check out all the blasting and pounding for yourself.
I had the opportunity to go hands-on with the game myself at E3. Even though I haven’t had the time to try out the Darksiders franchise, and I’ve never been interested in Diablo, the game’s major influence — I actually quite enjoyed Darksiders Genesis! The platforming elements that differentiate this game from its inspirations genuinely work well. I enjoyed jumping and swinging from place to place. The game also required pauses for reflection in order to figure out how to solve its puzzles, and there were lots of rewards for going off the beaten path and trying to explore every nook and cranny.
Darksiders Genesis made a believer out of me in my time with it, so I hope Airship Syndicate and THQ Nordic can just stick the landing come December and February respectively. The game is available for preorder in various, somewhat outlandish editions.
