Publisher WayForward and Toronto developer 13AM Games have shared gameplay for co-op kaiju brawler Dawn of the Monsters, which will be released in the first half of 2022 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Dawn of the Monsters lets you and one friend choose from four monsters to play as — Megadon, Ganira, Aegis Prime, and Tempest Galahad — who were designed by famous Godzilla character creator Shinji Nishikawa and Godzilla comic book artist Matt Frank. In other words, these kaiju look legit. But there will be some ability to customize their appearances as well.
The playable characters have “Brutal Rage” abilities, “Cataclysm Attacks,” and finishing moves, so hopefully these lumbering monsters will have a bit of hidden Streets of Rage 4 limberness about them. The action will play out in the fictional New Toronto, where your monsters battle other monsters and wreck the city in the process. There are 35 levels and more than a dozen basic enemy types, in addition to the bosses, which sounds like a healthy amount of content.
