Dead Cells

Fans of permanent death rejoice!

Acclaimed indie platformer Dead Cells will finally make its proper debut August 7 on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Don’t be confused if you’re having deja vu. Dead Cells has been available as an early access title only on PC since May 2017.  It was also playable at Nintendo’s PAX East 2018 event in April. For those not familiar, French developer Motion Twin has created a brutally-difficult game that combines aspects of the Metroidvania subgenre with roguelike elements including procedurally-generated levels and permadeath. Not to mention no checkpoints. Ouch.

That steep learning curve has not hurt sales for the game, however: its early access version has sold close to a million copies.

Pre-orders for Dead Cells open July 18 for the Switch version. Pre-order it for $20, a 20 percent savings on the expected retail price.
