Boy, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate looks amazing. If you’re like me, you are counting down the days until launch, armed with your GameCube controller and adapter from the Wii U Smash title. Sadly, folks who ordered the recently released Ultimate variation of the GCN accessory are reporting defects.

Why can’t we have nice things?

Initially posted on Reddit, users wrote about their experience trying out their fancy Smash pads. Some players described difficulty navigating the Switch menu, with cursors drifting left, right, and down regardless of the direction they were inputting. Either their controllers are wonky or their Switches are possessed by annoying spirits.

Thankfully, there is an easy solution to the drifting issue. Both commenters who blogged about the defects performed a hard reset on their Switch and the accessories started working like a charm. For those who are unaware how to do a hard reset, simply hold the Power button until the option to reset appears. This is useful knowledge for anyone else experiencing abnormalities who freak out and plan to immediately order replacements.

Personally, I’m thankful I have my older Wii U Smash controller to use with Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, this news has made me paranoid. I’m fixing to dig my stuff out of the closet to try it out and make sure it works properly. Hopefully, later shipments of the new pads are devoid of issues or Nintendo patches the bugs out with a firmware update.

What are your ruminations on the controller issue? Let us know in the comments!
