Publisher Playtonic Friends and developer Fabraz have announced a November 4, 2021 release date for platformer Demon Turf on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store. This is a humorous, not-dark game about 1000-year-old demon Beebz taking over turf all over the Demon world, with an ultimate goal of defeating the Demon King himself to take his throne. Demon Turf employs a hybrid art style where the world consists of 3D platforming, but Beebz and other characters appear 2D, as the release date trailer reflects.
The platforming gameplay in Demon Turf stands out with its physics-based combat, where, since your attacks are not lethal, you must “Push, pull and spin your enemies out of your way and down cliffs or into spikes.” You can also place your own checkpoints within levels to make the challenge as light or as heavy as you’d like. And when you’ve completed a level, you will want to return to it again anyway, because levels express mechanical and environmental changes once they’ve been liberated.
On top of all of that, there are myriad collectibles and other side offerings: “50 specific locations/characters to line the walls of an empty gallery. Fend of 25 arena challenges worth of enemy waves. Tackle 10 Demon Soccer Golf courses that put a bizarre twist on ball-pushing puzzles. Collect 8 cartridges to unlock remixed throwback levels from glorious 3D platformers of the past.” And while Demon Turf has its November release date set in stone on Nintendo Switch and its other platforms, you can still start experiencing the game now, as a free demo called Demon Turf: Trials is now available on Steam.
