Developer Fabraz first unveiled 3D platformer Demon Turf in June 2020, and now Playtonic Friends, the new publishing label of Playtonic Games, has revealed Demon Turf will be its first published title on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in summer 2021. The game is about Beebz, a 1000-year-old demon who must reclaim lost lands and defeat the Demon King to take his throne.
Fabraz reiterated some enticing mechanics of the game today. Notably, you will be able to place checkpoints whenever you want, and they also double as teleporters for fast backtracking if you miss collectibles. In a sense, this will let you set your own difficulty, which is nice. The combat is physics-driven since your basic attacks aren’t lethal, with an emphasis on pushing, pushing, and spinning your enemies to their doom. Additionally, when you take over a turf, you can return to the level in its “liberated” state to discover “plenty of mechanical and environmental changes.”
Demon Turf will also have plenty of side content to keep you playing: “50 specific locations/characters to line the walls of an empty gallery. Fend (off) 25 arena challenges worth of enemy waves. Tackle 10 Demon Soccer Golf courses that put a bizarre twist on ball-pushing puzzles. Collect 8 cartridges to unlock remixed throwback levels from glorious 3D platformers of the past.”
Gavin Price, CEO of Playtonic, offered high praise of Demon Turf, saying it was “one of the titles that made us want to set up our new publishing arm.” We think this one looks pretty cool too, and we’ll keep you updated on its final release date.
