Detective Pikachu writers have some ideas for a Super Smash Bros. movie

In an interview with ScreenRant, Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit shared their ideas for a potential Super Smash Bros. movie. Hernandez thinks the trick to making an impactful Smash movie is to make great standalone films first:

I think that the key to doing anything like that is to make sure that the other introductory movies are sensational. It’d be a dream to write something like Legend of Zelda, but before you can get to that Smash Bros stage you have to write the best damn version of The Legend of Zelda that you possibly can. And the same with Mario, the same with Kirby, the same with Star Fox.

Samit echoed these thoughts, explaining “Avengers: Endgame is only as good as it is because we loved all of those characters individually.”

Nintendo fans would undoubtedly love a cinematic universe of their own, especially if it adds up to a Super Smash Bros. movie. Detective Pikachu has also been doing pretty well at the box office. However, while overall reception seems to be positive, there are those that are finding themselves disappointed.

Even though there’s some debate over the film’s appeal, a sequel is already reportedly in the works. This will hopefully mark the beginning of better video game movies going forward. If you’re still doubtful, just remember that Sony once refused the rights to Iron Man.

Let us know if you’d like to see a Super Smash Bros. movie!

I love all kinds of video games. I personally find the most enjoyment in JRPGs, Visual Novels, and pretty much anything Nintendo makes. I'm always open to discovering new types of games, so I'll be happy to check out anything someone suggests.

    1. If we got a Smash Bros movie, just think about all the standalones we’d get too… potentially an EarthBound movie, a Fire Emblem movie, a Pikmin movie… dang, now I’m all excited over nothing! ?

    2. I would think they would try to make a 5 series movie, starting from the 1st Super Smash Bros. to Smash Ultimate. Kind of like The Avengers. However, if they were to make just one Smash Bros. movie, Brawl might be the easiest of the 5 games due to the play style and cut scenes in its adventure mode; Subspace Emissary. On the other hand, we could just get a duplicate of the MCU with each franchises’ characters having their particular set of movies like Sonic (A good one with proper character design), Fire Emblem, Splatoon, DK Country, etc.

    7. id rather not. The moment these titles start becoming mainstream, they will get ruined by SJW scrutiny. Also ive noticed that the only thing hollywood is doing now a days is remakes and adaptations. They dont seem to be able to make good original films(the original films they DO occasionally make, usually suck) . They dont have much creativity and they have to steal ideas from others yet they make so much profit. im not impressed.

    8. ya know, i got an idea for a The Legend of Zelda movie. It would be based on Skyward Sword, but with Zelda making a quck essscape. But the emotional core would be both Zelda and Link’s relationship, and how Link deals with the fact that there’s such a big destiny for him because, when he discovers he was destined to destroy the ultimate evil and that he holds part of one of the most powerful objects in the universe he’s like “yeah whatever”, but this would showcase how Link deals with it.
