blizzcon blizzard vicarious visions diablo ii: resurrected nintendo switch pc cross-progression later 2021 playstation 4 5 xbox one series x s

Revealed by Blizzard at BlizzCon, Diablo II: Resurrected is real and coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC later in 2021 with cross-progression, with a PC technical alpha test that will be available to sign up for starting today at Diablo2.Blizzard.com. The game modernizes Diablo II and its expansion, Lord of Destruction, and it is being developed by Blizzard and (just like reports indicated) Vicarious Visions.

This heavy-duty remaster takes the original 2D sprites and gives it a 4K resolution (on applicable platforms) upgrade with 3D physically-based rendering, dynamic lighting, revamped animations, and spell effects. Blizzard claims that “all 27 minutes” of the game’s cinematics have been rebuilt faithfully, shot for shot, from scratch. However, perhaps most exciting of all is that, at the press of a button, you can seamlessly toggle between Diablo II: Resurrected and the original game experience. The core gameplay of the original will be completely intact, including “quirks,” but there will be some “highly requested” quality-of-life improvements, like a shared stash.

J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment, shared the following about the announcement: “Diablo II was a pivotal game for Blizzard and millions of players around the world. With Diablo II: Resurrected, we’re excited to bring this classic back to PC and also to consoles—with cross-progression on supported platforms—so that players can relive their memories, or experience Diablo II’s timeless gameplay for the first time, on their platform of choice.”

Stay tuned for more updates on Diablo II: Resurrected coming to Nintendo Switch.
