Nintendo Switch already has Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle and several Yu-Gi-Oh! games, and it is about to get another digital card game with Battle Spirits: Connected Battlers by FuRyu, which has a new trailer and release date for Japan. The game is based on the real-life trading card game by Bandai, Sunrise, and Carddass.
FuRyu first announced Connected Battlers with a teaser trailer in April. We didn’t have much info about it other than its being a digital trading card game for the Switch and PlayStation 4. The new trailer shows more characters that we’ll see in the original story mode for the game. We also get a look at the card battle gameplay, which will offer over 1,000 cards for players to collect and build their own decks. If you’re not familiar with the card game, the video game will offer tutorials to get you up to speed. It will also feature online battles for competitive players.
Battle Spirits was originally released in Japan in September 2008 and localized in the United States in August 2009. The series has multiple anime, manga serializations, and video game adaptations. The last game was Battle Spirits: Samurai Championship for smartphones back in 2012. The last console game was Battle Spirits: Heroes Soul for the PSP in 2010, so Connected Battlers will be the first in over a decade.
