Disc Room release date October 22 Nintendo Switch PC Devolver Digital Jan Willem Nijman, Kitty Calis, Terri Vellmann, Doseone

Disc Room is a game about rooms with discs. Really, really sharp discs.” That summarizes almost everything you need to know about this new title from publisher Devolver Digital and developers Jan Willem Nijman and Kitty Calis (Minit), Terri Vellmann, and Doseone (Sludge Life). A new trailer offers insight on the game straight from the developers themselves, in addition to announcing an Oct. 22 release date on Nintendo Switch and PC.

Genre-wise, Disc Room calls itself a “sci-fi narrative dodge ’em up,” and I can’t tell if that’s a joke or not. In any case, the game occurs in the year 2089, when a huge disc has appeared in Jupiter’s orbit. A scientist has to explore this “sprawling intergalactic slaughterhouse” for some reason. Along the way — as the developers explain in the video — you will unlock new special abilities and uncover the game’s numerous secrets. Leaderboards incentivize you to keep playing and to survive as long as you can amid room after room of spinning death blades.

Disc Room has the makings of an addictive arcade action experience on Nintendo Switch and PC alike, and the game is definitely on brand for a Devolver Digital title. Now the game just has to stick the landing when it arrives later this month.
