DOOM 64 port

This morning was a disappointment for fans of DOOM. Not only was DOOM Eternal delayed until March 20, 2020 (even later for the Switch version), but the DOOM 64 port was similarly pushed back. Originally slated for November 22, 2019, the cult classic would have debuted on the eShop alongside the latest DOOM entry. Thankfully, there is a silver lining in the form of a pre-order bonus to satisfy the devastated community.

I was all ready to purchase the DOOM 64 port based on nostalgia alone

The DOOM Eternal developers shared an update on the delay via Twitter. They state:

We are adding DOOM 64 as a pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal on all platforms, so you’ll be able to download and play this classic game, for free, just for pre-ordering DOOM Eternal. DOOM 64 will be released on March 20, 2020 on all platforms.

This is a nice gesture to appease the masses. Being able to procure both titles at once is awesome, and gamers will save around $10, assuming DOOM 64 will be priced like DOOM 3.

I have fond memories of renting DOOM 64 from the local video store. The enemy designs are impressive for the time, and I really like that flesh laser gun. Hopefully, the game stands up as well as DOOM and DOOM II do all these years later. Blasting the spawns of hell into bloody stumps never gets old.

Enthusiasts, are you sad over the double DOOM delays? Will you pre-order DOOM Eternal to get the DOOM 64 port for $0? Let us know below!
