So, Doug Bowsette is a thing that happened today. Given only a few short hours with Doug Bowser’s name in the spotlight, Twitter’s fixation on the strange has Frankenstein-ed this monstrosity. Don’t get me wrong, Doug is for sure the next leader at the helm of Nintendo business and probably a pretty cool dude. I mean, come on, don’t tell me he didn’t have Mario and Luigi tied up in the background of this picture by accident. He embraces the name as we’ve seen in Reggie’s farewell video – “Team Bowser!”
But some on the internet couldn’t let the Bowsette craze die a peaceful death. Now, it seems, wherever Bowser goes, so does Bowsette — even if the new thing is Doug Bowsette.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Bowsette became an internet sensation among the gaming community when a few concept artists decided to envision what Bowser might look like wearing Toadette’s magic crown from New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. You know, the one that turns Toadette into a lovely princess called Peachette. Bowsette, however, took a — ahem — “bustier” approach catapulting the viral concept into somewhat of a sex symbol. Perhaps, it got a little out of hand with the trending porn searches of the character and the rather scandalous artwork that the news spawned.

So, therein lies the issue and the reason why Doug Bowsette trending on Twitter is a tad problematic. Let’s let the man enjoy his namesake without sullying it with last year’s odd internet fixation. And while this association didn’t take long, neither did the artwork. Sleep tight kids — don’t let Doug Bowsette keep you awake tonight.
