Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai video game Square Enix anime

As the fans are well aware, there is a whole lot of Dragon Quest that an international audience never got to experience — or at least had to wait much longer to experience. For instance, there is the highly successful manga Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, which ran between 1989 and 1996 in Weekly Shonen Jump and inspired an anime of its own. Now, Square Enix has randomly announced that this series is coming back for a new video game and anime. The game will be produced by Ryutaro Ichimura.

Specific platforms for Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai have not been announced, and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii would not even budge on whether it’s a standard video game or a mobile game. What we do have, however, is a flashy teaser trailer that conveys absolutely nothing meaningful.

Dragon Quest will likely never obtain the level of success internationally that it has garnered in Japan, due to a variety of factors, but the series has still come into its own. Square Enix recently announced that Dragon Quest XI has shipped over 5.5 million copies, showing that the father of the JRPG genre still has plenty of life in it.

Stay tuned for more info on whatever this new Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai game turns out to be.
