Word first came out that Dragon Star Varnir would be coming to Nintendo Switch back in February, and the game originally released for PlayStation 4 in Japan in 2018, followed by a 2019 international release on PS4 and PC. It is a turn-based RPG with combat that occurs across three vertical tiers. You must position your party members strategically across tiers to fight or defend, and the Switch version exclusively will make “weapons, armor, and level caps previously only available for purchase on other platforms” free to access this time.
The story involves Zephy, a knight typically tasked with hunting down witches, now having to work with the witches after they save his life with dragon blood. The story will change according to how you support the witches, namely in how much or how little dragon blood you provide them as food. Starving them could incur madness, whereas overfeeding them could turn them into a dragon. That sounds fairly true to life, all things considered.
Dragon Star Varnir comes to Nintendo Switch in the West in August, and it vies with other RPGs on the console for the title of coolest-sounding name.
