Everyone’s been getting excited for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but what about the original Musou series that started it all? Well, thankfully Koei Tecmo and its in-house developer Omega Force have announced at Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online that they’re bringing Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC via Steam in early 2021. Check out its teaser trailer.

The game combines the 1 vs. 1000 action that the series is known for and combines it with strategic elements such as unit command. As such, Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires sees players set out on a campaign to take China using strategic warfare.

Players can take part in Siege Battles, in which they deploy units to key strategic points to capture. In addition to the intense battles players take on as heroes from throughout history, made larger than life in the game, they’ll be able to issue orders to units around the map. All the classic gameplay you expect is coming back for another round on Nintendo Switch.

Additionally, per Gematsu translation, there is “Diplomacy” to engage in: “Players can experience various Ways of Life, including sovereign, shogun, private, non-government, and more. Interacting with various officers and building relationships will lead to stronger nation building.” Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires will not be an open-world title.

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
