Embr Nintendo Switch release date summer Curve Digital Muse Games multiplayer firefighting first-person satirical gig economy

Publisher Curve Digital and developer Muse Games are bringing vibrant firefighting game Embr to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this summer with cross-play, alongside the full 1.0 launch of the game on PC and Stadia. The game can be played solo, but the developers are emphasizing its online team multiplayer. Oddly, the whole game is a satirical take on the “gig economy” of people making a living working freelance, in that you will also be doing food delivery on the side while putting out fires. “Risking your life for money has never been more rewarding,” is a nice encapsulation of what Muse Games is going for.

The funny yet mildly depressing gameplay of Embr will involve “tackling blaze after blaze to earn tips from clients, picking up the ever-so-crucial 5-star rating in order to earn cash, upgrade tools, and hopefully become the ultimate ‘have-a-go hero’ firefighter. Want to make a little money on the side? Then you can also deliver takeout food on the fly with ‘Embr Eats’.” The console announcement trailer does the best job though of capturing the madness.

Embr looks like it could be a lot of fun on Nintendo Switch, and it reminds me of the similar madness coming in Just Die Already.
