Metroid Dread overview trailer

Metroid Dread launches on Nintendo Switch in less than one month. That’s exciting on its own, but its long and troubled development cycle makes it a borderline miracle! It’s been 19 years since we got an all-new 2D Metroid and 15 years since Sakamoto and his team first attempted to make Dread. Now we’re on the cusp of that dream becoming reality! If you’re not sure what Metroid is all about, or you just want to soak in every detail, you’ll want to check out the new Metroid Dread overview trailer! It’s packed with nearly 5 minutes of footage, including a few blink-and-you-miss-it reveals. Click below to watch!

Samus is back!

The new Metroid Dread overview trailer was mostly a recap of previous reveals, but if you pay close attention, you may spot a few interesting things. At one point, Samus jumps while in Morph Ball form, suggesting Jump Ball (or some variation) is back. A metal carriage suspended from rails serves as a fast travel method later on. A purple E.M.M.I. can be spotted (perhaps it carries the Gravity Suit?), and around the 3:13 mark, it seems to be under Chozo control! We also see the light blue E.M.M.I. using an ice attack. Finally, we have confirmation that Flash Shift can be used three times in the same direction. Previous trailers only showed it being used to dart back and forth, but you can chain it for some serious distance!

In addition to the overview trailer, Nintendo also put out a new Metroid Dread report today. It focused on the Chozo, and it’s pretty much all recap, but you can check it out by clicking here.
