Recently, we reported on the surprise announcement of a video game based on the hit anime and manga series Fairy Tail. The game, simply titled Fairy Tail, is coming to us by way of Koei Tecmo and Atelier RPG developer Gust. Thanks to new details from Famitsu translated by Gematsu, we know a few pertinent details about the upcoming console anime RPG. The most surprising detail is Fairy Tail will be covering “the popular middle arc of the original manga.”
Considering this is the first console game for the series, it’s somewhat surprising that it isn’t going to be covering the beginning of the original adventure at all. Fans of the anime and manga will likely be able to enjoy the experience just fine, but it sounds like newcomers might need to do some homework before they play this game.
Besides details on the story, it was also confirmed that the game will utilize a command-based battle system. Even though the announcement trailer showed off some action-heavy animations, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The developers of the Fairy Tail game, Gust, have rarely gone outside of their comfort zone of turn-based RPGs in their long history of game development.
The game will also feature various mages from the original anime and manga for you to form a party and go on adventures with. While no specific characters have been confirmed yet, we can assuredly count on the main crew who were present in the reveal trailer to be counted among the playable cast.
Fairy Tail will release on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam sometime in 2020.
