Today’s Nintendo Direct has been filled with many surprises, but one I’m really looking forward to is the release of Fall Guys on Switch this summer. At launch, Fall Guys was exclusively available on PlayStation 4 and PC, many Nintendo fans wondered if there would be a Switch version coming down the line. After all, its cute, colorful design seemingly fits right at home on the platform. Developer Mediatonic has also previously stated that it would love to bring the game to other platforms, but it wanted to build trust with its players before doing so. It certainly seems like a good time for a port then!
Releasing just last August (has it really been that long?), Fall Guys immediately took the internet by storm, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Within its first month alone, it sold over 7 million copies on PC, and became the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game of all-time. But if somehow you’re still unfamiliar with the game, Fall Guys has you compete against 59 other contestants in a series of goofy obstacles courses and minigames. Each round, a portion of the worst-performing contestants (or the worst-performing team) will get knocked out. This process continues for a few rounds until one Fall Guy stands alone with the victor’s crown.
Fall Guys also has a very active community, in part due to Mediatonic’s ongoing efforts to provide timely updates to keep things fresh. Currently, the game is in Season 3, which brings new winter-themed levels and costumes to the mix, but smaller updates have come mid-season in the form of random stage hazards and variations.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out Fall Guys yet, I strongly encourage you to pick up the Switch release this summer. As someone who doesn’t tend to play a lot of multiplayer games, I’ve had an absolute blast with this one, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally be able to take it with me on the go!
