During the Nintendo Direct on Sept 4, new details were revealed for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Player customization, Pokémon Camp, cooking minigames, and new Pokémon were all shown off in the Direct.
A broader range of customization options than were available in the previous two generations of Pokémon games have been added. In addition to previous customization options, players can now change outerwear, and gloves. Players can now change into a wide variety of hairstyles and makeup.
Pokémon Camp is the new feature that will allow you to interact with your Pokémon. Your Pokémon will even interact with each other. The Pokémon Camp can be accessed from the Wild Area, Pokémon Sword and Shield’s open-world area. Players can visit each other’s camps in the Wild Area, letting them interact with you and your Pokémon. Pokémon Camp can be shared by up to four players at a time.
Within the Pokémon Camp system is a new cooking minigame where players can prepare curry. The curry is prepared with berries and other items. There are over 100 varieties of curry, and each new one prepared will be stored in the Currydex.
Two new Pokémon were shown off, Polteageist, a teapot inhabiting Ghost-type Pokémon, and Cramorant, a Water/Flying-type Pokémon. Polteageist has the ability Weak Armor. When it is hit by a physical attack, its defense falls and its speed raises. Cramorant has a new ability called Gulp Missile, which will make it retaliate if it is attacked right after using Surf or Dive.
