Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and Game Freak have registered new trademarks for the Pokémon franchise, being “Pokémon Wonder” and “Fusion Arts.” They were registered today in Japan, Jan. 19. However, ”Pokémon Wonder” falls under the ”Food, Beverage, Education, Food/Accommodation” category. ”Fusion Arts” on the other hand is tied to “Games, toys and playthings,” which could hint at something to do with the Pokémon TCG.
You may want to subdue your excitement for the time being, as it is unknown whether or not this will effect the video games in any way. Trademarks are always a tricky subject, as sometimes they can go unused as seen with “Pokémon Grey” during the fifth generation. Sometimes companies like to cover all bases just in case they decide to go in a certain direction.
We all know that this year is going to be spectacular for Pokémon, as it is turning 25 years old next month. It is hard to believe that Pokémon Red and Blue launched so long ago; just thinking about it makes me emotional. The future is looking bright, with New Pokémon Snap launching on April 30 and more likely announcements throughout the year (plus the rumor of Diamond and Pearl remakes). It will be interesting to see whether or not these trademarks reappear sometime in the future.
