When something strange comes along, you can mock it as too weird and different, or you can throw your whole heart into it and embrace the absurdity. Along those lines, I am all in on the potential ridiculousness of Gamer Girl, the next FMV adventure from Wales Interactive (which has published other FMV titles such as The Complex). Developed by FMV Future, this game is about becoming the online moderator of a rising streamer, “Abicake99,” whose friend Becky mysteriously disappeared a while back. The narrative will branch according to your actions.
As the moderator, you “control the stream, level up mod powers, guide Abi’s choices, and uncover the threat she faces by an anonymous predator who hides in the stream’s chat.” That is absurd — I love it. Enjoy the majesty of the debut trailer for Gamer Girl. The game will release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in September.
Your powers as moderator go awfully deep, apparently. Not only can you recommend that Abicake99 (“Abi”) do things like cosplay or draw chibi anime characters, but you can even encourage her to engage in “drama” to increase her ratings. And perhaps the most unique aspect of all in Gamer Girl — every scene was improvised by the cast as opposed to sticking to a rigid script, to encourage natural reactions. That’s a potential recipe for disaster. It’s perfect!
In conclusion, if we receive a review code for Gamer Girl, nobody can stop me from playing the heck out of whatever this thing turns out to be. I need to see what FMV Future and Wales Interactive have cooked up here.
But what do you think about this very unique game?
