The dream of Geno from Super Mario RPG in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an original character is dead. He has been revealed as part of Mii Fighters Round 8, along with Barret, Tifa, and Aerith from Final Fantasy VII and Chocobo from the general Final Fantasy series. This info comes from the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate reveal event for Sephiroth being hosted by Masahiro Sakurai.
As you might suspect, Barret is a Gunner, and Tifa is a Brawler. Aerith is a Swordfighter, despite clearly holding a staff. Chocobo is actually just a hat, but a cute hat. And lastly, Geno — the one everyone has been begging for from Nintendo and Square Enix, the best representative of a spectacular JRPG, a charming character who has been criminally absent from any other game — is a Gunner Mii Fighter. Sigh. Well, hey, at least it really looks like Geno for the most part, like how Bomberman really looks like Bomberman. It’s better than nothing.
Barret, Tifa, Aerith, Chocobo, and Geno join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Dec. 22, alongside Sephiroth and his Northern Cave level from Final Fantasy VII. Each Mii Fighter costume in Round 8 costs $0.75. It’s commendable that the size of Mii Fighters is as impressive as the size of actual fighters in the game.
