This evening during The Game Awards, Capcom unveiled a new entry in its Ghosts ‘n Goblins franchise. Titled Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection, this reboot follows series protagonist Arthur as he heads on yet another demon-fighting adventure to save his princess. You’ll be able to dive into the game starting February 25, 2021 on Switch.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection follows Arthuras he travels a demonic fantasy world known as the Demon Realm. Don’t let the storybook-styled art fool you, though, as the Demon Realm is full of tough enemies (including zombies, scythe-wielding skeletons, and… frogs?) and challenges to overcome. It appears as though the franchise’s staple two-hit health system is back, meaning players are sure to be in for a frightful time.
A knight is nothing without his tools, and Arthur has access to plenty of them along his path. The classic lance and daggers make their return, but you’ll also be able to pick up new weapons along the way. For the first time in the franchise, Arthur will be able to wield a hammer and spiked ball. Magic also makes its return via spells such as Firewall and Thunderstorm.
Thankfully, if these tools still don’t help in your quest, Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrected has a suite of difficulty options for players of all skill levels. Experienced players may want to check out Squire, Knight, or Legend modes, while newcomers may take advantage of the Page difficulty, which allows you to respawn where you fall with unlimited lives.
What do you think of Ghosts ‘n Goblins new look? Are there any other retro franchises you’d like to see make a comeback?
