2020 Pokemon of the Year Greninja

We’ve come a long way since the days of the original 151 Pokémon. Eight generations in, the series now contains nearly 1,000 monsters of all different shapes and sizes. With so many to choose from, it can be hard to pick a favorite. Still, The Pokémon Company tasked fans with doing exactly that. In celebration of the anniversary of the franchise, they asked fans to vote for the 2020 Pokémon of the Year, and the results are in! This year, the fan base collectively voted Greninja as the best of the best. You can check out the top ten in the video below!

Counting down the top ten

Millions of votes were cast, and The Pokémon Company made the above video to celebrate the top ten. Shockingly, Pikachu did not make the list! An extended list on the official website shows that the series’ main mascot came in 19th place overall. Greninja took home the honor of 2020 Pokémon of the Year with 140,559 votes. Lucario, the second place vote-grabber, was well behind with 102,259. The top ten had a varied mix of Pokémon from almost every generation.
