A new War of the Worlds game released last year, believe it or not. It was a small-scale indie experience that launched on PC and other consoles, so it may have passed you by. A few months on and it looks like it’s coming to Nintendo Switch, as a new eShop listing reveals. Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story comes from English developer Steel Arts Software.
It’s a stealth game that focuses on the overall atmosphere of the original story above all else. It does throw you right into the Martian invasion though, and you’ll be escaping the likes of the Fighting Machine and its Heat Ray laser weapon.
Judging by last year’s launch trailer, Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story sort of looks like a “walking simulator” with some stealth elements. You’ll probably be doing a lot of running away rather than fighting then, as you try and avoid an untimely death. The environments look interesting though, with Grey Skies taking you through a hauntingly beautiful English countryside.
The initial reaction on Steam has seemed mixed (from the few reviews it has so far), so better to be cautiously optimistic than anything else. Criticism has been leveled at its overall polish though, and we hope the delayed release on Switch can clean up some of those problems. It’s out Feb. 4 anyway for $14.99, and Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story is available to preorder on the Switch eShop now.
