One of my favorite characters in the entire world is Hatsune Miku. For the uninitiated, Hatsune Miku is one of many characters designed around a voice synthesizer program known as Vocaloid. Hatsune Miku and the other Vocaloids have developed an entire subculture around them, which expands into the realm of rhythm video games. The latest in this franchise has just been announced by Sega, and it’s exclusive to Switch!
The announcement came during the Hatsune Miku “Magical Mirai 2019” event in Tokyo. Titled Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix, the game is part of the 10th anniversary celebrations for the Project DIVA line of games. It’s hard to believe that the games have been around for so long!
Mega Mix features a staggering 101 songs, including franchise favorites and brand-new titles. Customization is a huge part of the games, and Mega Mix keeps the tradition going by including over 300 costumes. Like most rhythm games, the gameplay amounts to pressing specific buttons in time with the music, but Mega Mix also utilizes the Joy-Cons to include a mode for motion controls.
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix launches exclusively on Switch in Japan on February 13, while a Western release is scheduled for an unspecified date next year. I can’t wait!
