Nintendo just surprised us by dropping a Nintendo Direct without warning! There’s plenty to unpack, but if you’re a Pokémon fan, they saved the best for last. The surprise video concluded with a new look at the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC. Specifically, we got a new trailer for The Isle of Armor. This is the first of two big content DLC packs included in the Expansion Pass, and it launches this June.
Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC trailer
The new Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC footage revealed the identity of the two large towers we’ve seen in previous footage. These are collectively known as the “Tower of Two Fists.” One of them is the “Tower of Darkness,” while the other is the “Tower of Waters.” You will have to choose one (and only one) of these towers to battle, armed only with Kubfu.
Once you’ve emerged victorious, your Kubfu will evolve into an Urshifu. If you chose the Tower of Darkness, your Urshifu will add Dark as a secondary type and learn Single Strike Style. If you chose the Tower of Waters, it will instead gain the Water-type and learn Rapid Strike Style.
G-Max and customization
As previously revealed, The Isle of Armor will introduce G-Max forms for the evolved starter Pokémon. Today we learned more about their special G-Max attacks. Rillaboom learns G-Max Drum Solo, Cinderace learns G-Max Fireball, and Inteleon learns G-Max Hydro Snipe. These moves will negate your opponent’s abilities when they attack.
Nintendo also teased that the Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC will introduce tons of new clothing options, plus new League Card backgrounds, effects, and frames. If you pre-purchase the Expansion Pass before August 31, you’ll receive Leon’s cap and tights as a bonus.
Finally, Nintendo also revealed some new Wild Area events. Starting today, you’ll have a higher chance of encountering G-Max Copperaja and Duraludon in Sword, and Garbodor and Charizard in Shield.
