super mario maker 2 3d world style unique

The original Super Mario Maker gave fans the chance to create their own Mario worlds. That amazing experience is getting a sequel on Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo’s packing it with lots of extra content. Aside from all the new items and baddies, Nintendo’s also adding a whole new game type. Previously, players had access to assets from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U. In Super Mario Maker 2 you’ll be able to build levels using the Super Mario 3D World style as well.

Nintendo revealed this new addition in past trailers, but today we got a much closer look. The new Nintendo Direct got up close and personal with the Wii U graphics style, revealing tons of new details. Aside from aesthetics, there’s a key difference that sets it apart. The 3D World style has many unique elements, so you can’t convert it to or from another style. Levels built using 3D World assets have to stay that way, but it lets them stand out from the rest.

Here’s a breakdown of all the special assets that you won’t find anywhere else:

3D World’s exclusive assets:

  • Cat Mario
  • Clear pipes
  • Crates that float on water and lava
  • Warp Box
  • Spike Block
  • “!” Blocks
  • Blinking Blocks
  • Track Block
  • Mushroom Trampoline
  • Piranha Creeper
  • Skipsqueak
  • Koopa Troopa Car
  • Charvaargh
  • Pom Pom
  • Banzai Bill
