Though many of the Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra can be obtained by following the story or through Dynamax Adventures, there are quite a few that can’t. One of the more elusive ones until recently has been Poipole, an Ultra Beast introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. For such an elusive Pokémon, it turns out that Poipole (and its evolution Naganadel) is pretty easy to grab, though it does rely on a bit of luck. This quick guide will show you how to get Poipole in The Crown Tundra.
To get this Poison-type Ultra Beast, you’ll have to have all three of the Legendary Clues given in The Crown Tundra’s story completed. Once you do this and report back to Peony, he’ll rush off to the Max Lair to spend time with his daughter. In the process of doing so, a mysterious fourth Legendary Clue appears on the ground right at the exit to your base camp. Pick it up and return it to Peony to unlock the ability to find Ultra Beasts in Dynamax Adventures.
This next part can take a little while, given the random nature of the mode. You’ll have to fight your way through Dynamax Adventures until you catch and keep five Ultra Beasts — it’s not enough to simply defeat or catch them. You can either find the Ultra Beasts as the boss encounter naturally through play or after purchasing the location from Peonia for five Dynite Ore, assuming she offers it. Thankfully, once you find one of the creatures via either method, you can save its location, which allows you to choose to face it instead of leaving it to chance.
Upon catching these creatures, you should find a rambunctious level 20 Poipole in the lobby waiting for you. Apparently, it came through the Ultra Wormhole along with the rest of the Ultra Beasts. The Dynamax Adventures leader hasn’t been able to catch it, so she requests that you take care of it in her place.
Unlike other Ultra Beasts, Poipole is able to evolve. To obtain Poipole’s evolved form, Naganadel, you first need to teach Poipole the move Dragon Pulse. This can be done by teaching it via TR62, which is available as a reward from Max Raid battles, as a pickup from The Isle of Armor‘s Insular Sea, or via a Cram-o-matic recipe. The easiest option by far though is to use the Name Rater in any Pokémon Center. Once Poipole knows Dragon Pulse, level it up once and you’ll wind up with Naganadel.
Congratulations, you just obtained one of the most elusive Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra, alongside its evolution! If you need help finding some of the other ones like Cosmog or the Swords of Justice, be sure to check out our other guides!
