One of my favorite parts of Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra is just how many Legendary Pokémon can be found outside of the Dynamax Adventures mode. Many of these come from following the story, but there are just as many that the game never tells you about. Such is the case with the group known as the Swords of Justice. This group consists of the Iron Will Pokémon Cobalion, the Grassland Pokémon Virizion, the Cavern Pokémon Terrakion, and the Colt Pokémon Keldeo. If you want to find these Legendary/Mythical Pokémon, you’ll have to track them down. Literally. Here is a quick guide for how to find the Swords of Justice in The Crown Tundra.
To start this quest, you may notice some footprints at the base of a tree just outside the fence next to your base camp in Freezington. If these aren’t here, you may need to progress through the story a little first. Upon examining these, you’ll run into Sonia (now a professor) who explains that she’s doing research on another set of Legendary Pokémon in the area. For her to track them down, however, you’ll have to gather evidence of their presence.
The Swords of Justice sidequest is highly reminiscent of Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Isle of Armor’s Diglett hunting quest, though I found it to be far easier. Across the region’s various sections, you’ll find footprints in one of three different colors, each corresponding to a particular creature. To be able to identify the creature’s habitat, you’ll have to collect 50 sets of footprints for that specific Pokémon. Unlike with the Diglett quest though, each color has well over 50 sets of footprints to find, and a given Pokémon’s footprints are confined to specific areas. Thus, it’s not uncommon to be able to find three or four footprints within seconds of each other. I think these footprints stand out a bit among the rest of the ground too, making them relatively easy to spot while roaming around.
If you’re looking for Cobalion, you’ll be looking for blue footprints in the Roaring Sea Caves and in the Frigid Sea. For Virizion, your targets are green footprints located in Frostpoint Field and Giant’s Bed. Lastly for Terrakion, you’ll be searching for brown footprints in Lakeside Cave and in the Ballimere Lake areas.
Once you’ve acquired 50 footprints for a given Pokémon, you’ll have to head back to the building next to your base camp in Freezington. Inside, you’ll find Sonia waiting for you, and talking to her will give you the general location of that creature. You’ll then want to head back to that area and roam around until you find the Pokémon, at which point you can fight and hopefully succeed in capturing them. Cobalion can be found in the Frigid Sea, Virizion is located in Giant’s Bed, and Terrakion is found in Lakeside Cave.
Once you capture one of the first three Swords of Justice, return to Sonia to show her, at which point she’ll give you a small bonus for helping her research. The first one you bring back will earn you 10 Experience Candy S, the second gives 10 Experience Candy M, and the last gives 10 Experience Candy L. After showing Sonia all three, she’ll conclude her visit in the region and take off for home.
But just because she’s done doesn’t mean you are. There’s still Keldeo to obtain. With Virizion, Cobalion, and Terrakion in your party, make your way back to Ballimere Lake. Hop on your bike and ride across the water surrounding Dyna Tree Hill. Towards the back of the hill, you’ll come across a lonely island with a random cooking pot on it. This is a clue, suggesting that you should make some curry. Do just that, and the Mythical Pokémon Keldeo will be waiting for you. As usual, battle and capture Keldeo to add it to your collection.
