Ikaruga physical edition lands in North America this October

Ikaruga physical version Nintendo Switch Nicalis special edition preorder Hypergun Edition Treasure

Earlier this month it was confirmed that an Ikaruga physical edition was coming to Japan in September. Now Nicalis has revealed that North America will also be getting a physical release on Oct. 27. These physical editions are $59.99 and already available to preorder from Nicalis.

The North American Ikaruga physical edition includes the following:

  • A copy of Ikaruga
  • Heavy outer box
  • A Metal Earth steel model of the Ikaruga ship, assembly required
  • Heavy-stock color instruction manual
  • Premium foil “Warning” sticker

Ikaruga first launched for Japanese arcades in December 2001, followed by Dreamcast in 2002. A GameCube release in 2003 first brought the game to North America. Five years later it made its way to Xbox 360, and then PC in 2014. Most recently, the game came to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in 2018.

The game’s popularity stems from one of its most unique features. The player’s ship can shift polarity, which will allow you to absorb projectiles of the same polarity and charge up instead of taking damage. Over the years new features have been added to bring more convenience to the game. For example, you can access all game modes from the menu and save the game so that you can carry on with a level later.

What do you reckon, enthusiasts? Will you be adding this one to your physical Switch collection?

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
