Keiji Inafune, creator of MegaMan and the upcoming Kickstarter funded Mighty No. 9, has voiced his praise for Nintendo’s iconic portly plumber, Mario .  According to Inafune, Mario is the \”development bible\” that developers should look to and draw inspiration from when building a platformer.  In fact, he shows no sympathy to those who have never played a Mario game.
\”If any creator has not played Mario, then they\’re probably not a good creator,\” said Inafune.
He said that there are many hints for good design, cute characters, and about innovation in using what is already there.  Inafune maintained that game creators should always look at such things and constantly examine them and take hints from them because they are the elements that serve as an anchor for most projects.
Inafune went on to say that Japan should even go as far as to recognize the work Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario’s creator, has done to broaden appreciation for their country.  He said he finds it strange that Japan doesn\’t show enough praise for Miyamoto like the U.S. does for some of its famous athletes.  The fact that Miyamoto has pushed forward Japanese culture and interest in Japan from all over the world is no surprise to Inafune.
\”He’s somebody that deserves everyone’s ultimate respect, and a lot of that is due to being able to create Mario.  And Super Mario Bros. 3, of course, within that, was a fantastic game.,\” said Inafune.
