Infinity Kickstarter unreleased Game Boy Color RPG unfinished finish complete raise funds Retro Modding Incube8 Games Affinix Software

Back in March, we reported that Retro Modding, Incube8 Games, and some developers from Affinix Software were teaming up to finish and physically release Infinity, an unreleased Game Boy Color (GBC) RPG that had been in development between 1999 and 2001 but was canceled due to lack of a publisher and the industry shift to Game Boy Advance development. Now, as had been mentioned back then, Infinity is heading to Kickstarter for additional funding to complete the game starting August 18.

As you can see in the screenshots we’ve bundled together above, Infinity looks pretty delightful as far as Game Boy Color games go. The premise is that a buried ancient evil is corrupting the land, and at the same time, a “shadowy figure” is arming two rival nations and encouraging them to go to war. How rude!

Here are a bunch more cool features you can expect in Infinity as you decide whether to contribute to its Kickstarter:

  • An inventive tactical battle system
  • A detailed world with over 50 explorable areas
  • The option to alternate at any time between “Wait” and “Action” battle modes, with 4 different speeds
  • A rich and complex plot that goes above and beyond what you would expect from an 8-bit portable RPG
  • Around 20 hours of gameplay
  • 6 playable characters, each with their own specialties
  • An elaborate script with more than 3,000 lines of dialogue and 20,000 words (Longer than Final Fantasy II and comparable to Dragon Warrior III)
  • Advanced graphical techniques that make the most of the humble Game Boy Color hardware
  • Ultra-customizable text window color gradient

Retro Modding and Incube8 have not specified how much funding they will seek for Infinity on Kickstarter or how much the GBC game will cost, but retro enthusiasts would do well to keep an eye out next week.
