Injustice DC Animated Movie Warner Bros Gods Among Us video game comic book adaptation

Warner Bros. and DC Comics have announced Injustice, a DC Animated Movie project adapted from both NetherRealm Studios’ Injustice: Gods Among Us fighting game and the comic book Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One. The video game came to Wii U back in 2013, if you are one of the few and the proud that owned it, and a sequel simply called Injustice 2 launched on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.

The premise of Injustice is that there is a universe where the Joker tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane, which basically causes him to snap and Superman decides to take control of Earth in order to protect it from itself. Superheroes and villains are divided over this, and Batman and other heroes attempt to stop Superman from taking over. The game narrative and the comics created to flesh out the world were well received, so there’s no reason it can’t make for a great Injustice animated movie.

Matt Peters of Justice League Dark is the director with a script from Ernie Altbacker. Meanwhile, the voice cast is massive (via The Hollywood Reporter), but some highlights include Justin Hartley as Superman, Anson Mount as Batman, Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn, and Yuri Lowenthal as Mirror Master, Flash, and Shazam.

The DC Animated Movies are often celebrated for their quality, and many discussions have been had about how DC excels at animated fare while Marvel excels in the live-action space. This Injustice animated movie has a lot of promise, and it will arrive sometime in fall 2021.
