Inti Creates Osaka branch 3D games Takuya Aizu

When you think Inti Creates, you probably think pixelated 2D platformer/sidescrollers. Mega Man Zero, Mega Man ZX, Azure Striker Gunvolt, Blaster Master ZeroDragon Marked for Death, heck even Mega Man 9 and 10 — they are all (more or less) 2D platformers. It’s rare for a developer to be (positively) associated with one specific genre so much, but Inti Creates has achieved that. Yet maybe that’s about to change, because per Japanese Nintendo, Inti Creates president and CEO Takuya Aizu has announced a new Inti Creates Osaka branch (3rd Development Studio) to develop 3D games.

That’s more or less all we know about the Osaka branch at this time, but it’s a surprising development as the company has taken pride in the specific type of old-school games it creates in the past. Of course, that’s not to say they suddenly plan to step away from 2D development either; a company can deliver its core product while still expanding, which is inevitably the case here.

To date, the Gal*Gun franchise is Inti Creates’ only really notable venture into 3D gaming (Mighty No. 9 and its 2.5D-ness aside), with the second game appearing on Nintendo Switch. It is a weird on-rails shooter that I can’t imagine becoming the face of the company, so I’m curious to see what other 3D game projects they cook up.

What do you want to see from this unique developer in 3D?
