Pokémon Sword Shield Isle of Armor, Crown Tundra

The long-awaited teaser for the upcoming Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield dropped this morning, and it certainly is… compact. The sizzle reel shows off some new moves, new forms, returning monsters, and of course, Galarian Slowbro. Gotta have that Slowbro, man.

Galarian Slowbro

The Hermit Crab Pokémon now wields its Shellder like an arm cannon. I can already envision nicknaming it Rock. More importantly, it appears that Galarian Slowbro is now a Poison/Psychic-type. Its purple goo looks a lot like a poison attack, and it sports dark purple markings on its arms and head. It seems we’ll be able to find these guys pretty plentifully on the Isle of Armor.

It also appears that we’ll see the return of double battles in the upcoming DLC. The trailer shows former Galar League champion Leon fighting alongside his best frenemy and social media influencer Raihan. It’s not clear whether these will be introduced in Isle of Armor or the Crown Tundra, but I’m actually pretty excited for this. Doubles was my preferred way to play, and I’ve sorely missed it in Sword and Shield.

Finally, we come to the main event. After all the hullabaloo about there only being two types of trees in the latest Pokémon installment, Game Freak has introduced a third. And boy is it a doozy. It stands larger than almost any building in Galar, even giving Gigantamax Duraludon a run for its money. And its giant fruit is a treat for any Dynamaxed monster that happens to come across it.

There’s more in the trailer too, of course, and it’s awesome to finally see the Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in action. They look positively sinister. The Isle of Armor DLC will release on June 17, with the Crown Tundra following later this year. The bundle costs $29.99.
