In an interview with Japanese publication Toyo Keizai, Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata had this to say about attracting the attention of everyday gamers, a task he believes is getting harder and harder each and every day:

Mr. Iwata: \”What I feel most now is that getting the attention of customers in video games is much more difficult than before. With all of the information that people have access to now, the ability to pay attention is limited. These big differences occur, whether we like it or not.\”

Iwata then commented on the success of Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS, which continues to sell well, Iwata believes, due to word of mouth, social media, and more.

He may have ultimately found the solution to his own concerns – if attracting people’s attention isn\’t so easy these days and Animal Crossing: New Leaf continues to dominate in sales thanks to the interactions of gamers, Nintendo may indeed already be doing something right…at least on the Nintendo 3DS.
