The Nintendo 3DS had a rocky start, but Nintendo never gave up on the system. Obviously that was a good thing, as the platform has churned out countless hits and future classics, and also has achieved some impressive sales figures in a mobile-dominated area. The 3DS has officially passed 20 million units sold in Japan, which is quite the feat.

Possibly just as impressive is how Japan has taken to Nintendo’s new IP Splatoon. Splatoon has just passed 1 million copies sold in Japan, which considering the system’s install base, is very impressive for a new and fresh idea from Nintendo.

Nintendo has been seeing a lot of success lately in Japan, and hopefully this success will continue and translate worldwide.
