This year has brought with it a laundry list of changes to normal life, all thanks to the outbreak of COVID-19 that has been plaguing the world since early in the year. One of the changes is working-from-home measures due to most countries mandating shelter-in-place orders. Many folks have used this extra time at home to perform a variety of projects. But, what about Nintendo staffers? Were they also baking bread, painting pictures, and boosting their cardio? Well, maybe. But, some of them were also doing what they do best: making games. And someway, somehow, a little game called Jump Rope Challenge is what came out of the minds of a few Nintendo developers while working from home over these past few weeks.
Jump Rope Challenge is a new free Switch game from Nintendo that was created during a period of the lockdown. In the Q&A portion of Nintendo’s Investor’s Briefing (translated by Robert Sephazon), it was revealed that players have already wracked up 590,000,000 jumps in the game.
The fact that this is a free title has certainly helped generate popularity. Of course, there’s also a point to be made that people have generally started to pay more attention to fitness due being stuck at home for so long. And, this is a relatively simple exercise that anybody can perform. Perhaps it’s these very factors that led to the Nintendo devs to come up with this idea in the first place.
