At Gamescom’s digital showcase this year, Frontier Developments revealed that a Nintendo Switch version of Jurassic World Evolution is coming. Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition drops this November, and the team has gone into more depth on how the Switch version works. In short, it looks like a pretty good port.
Matt Simpler, the head of technology at Frontier Developments, and Richard Newbold, the game director on Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition, go over what’s included on Switch. All paid story content is there (we’d hope so), including the story DLC based off the original films. Extra dinosaur packs are also included, which were released over time after launch.
The developers also discuss how a game of this scale is shrunken down for Nintendo’s hybrid system. Simper said that while changes had to be made for it to fit on Switch, it was vital the team maintained the look and feel of Evolution. That goes right to the UI elements, which the team says work surprisingly well on the Switch’s smaller screen. Creating relative parity between handheld and docked was also a big priority. In that case, we’re not expecting huge differences across the two modes.
We’ll have to see if all this pays off when Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition launches for Switch on Nov. 3.
