Bayonetta 3 was announced during The Game Awards in 2017 and has easily become one of Nintendo Switch’s most anticipated titles. But details about it have been perpetually scarce. PlatinumGames video game designer Hideki Kamiya recently participated in a Hamster Games Archives livestream, where he spoke about his schedule and ongoing projects such as Bayonetta 3. Kamiya told Hamster Games boss Satoshi Hamada (via Nintendo Everything translation), ”Well, I suppose… we’ve been working on new stuff like Bayonetta 3, not that I can say too much… but I hope we can give an update during the year.” He also added that he hopes to “give updates on a few more unannounced projects too.”
If Bayonetta 3 were to launch this year, 2021 could easily go down as one of the Nintendo Switch’s best years, but as has been the case for over three years now — we know virtually nothing about the game. However, PlatinumGames is well known for its stylish hack-and-slash games, with titles such as The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta, and Nier: Automata under its belt, and there are expectations that this next title (plus Project G.G.) will carry the studio’s prestigious pedigree.
Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch is continuing to dominate the market, as seen in the month of December last year or across 2020 in general. 2021 also marks a variety of milestones for Nintendo’s franchises, with the likes of The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Donkey Kong, and Metroid celebrating their anniversaries. Even if Bayonetta 3 launches in 2022, this year is still looking like it will be fantastic for Switch owners.
Hopefully we’ll get an update on Bayonetta 3 this year like Kamiya suggested in the interview. Are you excited for the title and some other unannounced projects?
