In a recent investor Q & A that took place earlier today in Japan, Tatsumi Kimishima, the President of Nintendo, revealed that the company plans for the NX to be profitable right at launch.

Although this news may sound normal, it is not actually the norm. Most of the time, companies launch consoles and lose money on each console sold, then make the money back on games. The fact that Nintendo plans for the NX to be profitable right away is quite the significant piece of news.
