In a stunning extra announcement at the final Super Smash Bros Ultimate character reveal showcase (which was for Sora, of course), Masahiro Sakurai additionally declared that the Kingdom Hearts series is coming to Nintendo Switch as a bunch of cloud versions to stream. Specifically, Nintendo Switch cloud versions of the following Square Enix games will become available in the presumably near future: Kingdom Hearts – HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III, which encompasses most of the series. You will be able to purchase the games individually or in a bundle called Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece for Cloud.

Around the release of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, Tetsuya Nomura revealed to me exclusively that there were not plans to bring more of the series to Nintendo Switch due to technical issues that Square Enix had run into. However, bringing all these games to Switch via the cloud certainly seems to brush aside all of those issues. Granted, some will very likely be disappointed to hear that you can only play these games via the cloud — which means you probably won’t be playing it in the car, and someday these games are going to disappear — but it’s better than nothing.
Square Enix has supported Nintendo Switch in a wide variety of creative and unexpected ways lately, and Nintendo Switch receiving cloud versions of Kingdom Hearts – HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III is kind of just the icing on the cake.
